Bangkok |
Thailand has a great offer of International schools of which the majority is located in Bangkok. In Bangkok, there are already almost one hundred International schools, with a variety of educational systems to choose from. However, not all schools have all grades, most of them are only kindergarden or upto grade 6 or 8 or year 6 or 9.
The systems most represented are :
- The American Curriculum
- The British Curriculum and
- The IB (International Baccalaureate)
then there is a well known
- School following the French educational system and a
- School following the Swiss educational system.
Especially for the younger children having to choose between an English/American speaking system, there is such a very large choice that you might have to study a bit before making a choice, study the schools and maybe also the location where you will live. Very often, it is the location where you live that will also mean what school your child will attend. The best known schools are often located in rather different areas, for example, if you would be working and living north of Bangkok, then your child will most probably attend the ISB which is following the American or IB program. Would you be living around the Bangna Area, then your child would probably attend the Patana school which is following the British system. Living north of Bangkok but sending your child to the Patana school would be too tiring for your child. When living inside, central, Bangkok, you will be able to choose between many schools.

| Budget |
The prices of the best known international schools are of course also higher than the smaller or less known international schools. If your company is paying, then you will in general be able to attend the better known schools. Will you have to pay the school by yourself, then you might have to study the prices a bit.
The smaller schools or less popular schools or cheaper schools sometimes have Indian or Philippino teachers and you should consider the risk of your child getting an Indian or Philippino accent when speaking in English.
If your budget is just not enough for the best known schools, then you should ask around about the reputation of some smaller schools. How many students does the school have in a class and how many teachers per class. What kind of extra activities do they have to offer, look at the school, does it look clean and safe. What is the distance to the school. What nationality is the majority of the students of. |
